Terms of Use
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Field Notes at briskflora.com, you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you access it for an organisation, you confirm that you may bind that organisation to these terms.
2. Service description
Field Notes is an independent magazine about material culture, traditional craft, care and field documentation. It provides editorial guides, analysis and commentary for information and education. We do not sell products, process transactions or arrange purchases through the Service.
3. User rules and responsibilities
Use the Service lawfully and without infringing another person’s rights. Do not impair the site, attempt unauthorised access, use automated collection without written permission, republish substantial content, submit unlawful or abusive material, impersonate others, distribute malware or interfere with another visitor. You must be at least 13; if you are under 18, use the Service with a parent or guardian’s review where required.
4. Intellectual property
Original articles, site design, graphics and Field Notes marks are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may share page links and quote brief excerpts with clear attribution and a link to the original page. You may not reproduce, redistribute, modify or commercially exploit substantial material without prior written permission. Names and material belonging to third parties remain the property of their respective owners.

6. Copyright and takedown requests
If you believe material on the Service infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with the work identified, the exact Service URL, your name and contact details, a good-faith statement, and a statement that the notice is accurate and that you are authorised to act. We will review valid notices promptly and may remove or replace material where appropriate.
7. Editorial independence
Field Notes articles, rankings and commentary are independently prepared. Advertising and any sponsored or paid material are clearly labelled and kept separate from editorial decisions. Opinions are our own and do not represent the views of sources, makers, institutions or companies mentioned.
8. Third-party links
The Service links to independent websites and services. We do not control or endorse their content, availability, privacy practices or operations, and are not responsible for loss arising from reliance on them.
9. Disclaimer
Use the Service at your own risk. It is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties to the extent permitted by law. Content is not conservation, structural, legal, medical, safety, financial or purchasing advice. Verify current facts with original sources and obtain qualified guidance before treating significant objects, using specialist tools or working on buildings.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Field Notes and its contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses arising from use of the Service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify Field Notes and its contributors against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of the Service, violation of these terms or infringement of another person’s rights.
12. Account suspension and termination
No account is required for ordinary access. If account features are introduced later, we may suspend or terminate access for breaches of these terms and will describe account deletion and retention in the Privacy Policy. Sections that should survive termination, including intellectual property, disclaimers and liability limits, will continue to apply.
13. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms as the Service develops. A revised date will appear at the top of this page. Where practical and required, material changes will be announced before they take effect. Continued use after an effective revision means acceptance of the updated terms.
14. Dispute resolution
Before beginning formal proceedings, please contact us in writing so we can try to resolve a dispute in good faith. This local preview does not establish a public-service dispute forum; any binding dispute process for a public launch will be stated here with the legal operator and applicable law.
15. Governing law and jurisdiction
Before public launch, this section will name the legal operator, governing law and venue that apply to the live Service. Nothing in this preview is intended to remove consumer protections that cannot be waived under applicable law.
16. Entire agreement
For a public release, these terms together with the Privacy Policy will form the complete agreement between you and the Service regarding its use, replacing prior communications on that subject.
17. Severability
If a court finds a provision unenforceable, it will be interpreted or limited only as necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
18. Waiver
Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision. A waiver is effective only when made in writing by an authorised representative of Field Notes.
